Ndaba Mandela (born 23 December 1982) is a South African businessman and philanthropist. He is the grandson[1] of Nelson Mandela and is chairman and co-founder of Africa Rising Foundation, an organization dedicated to elevating the perception of Africa globally.[2][3]

Focused on youth movements and empowerment and the power of technology to break down barriers, Ndaba Mandela, with his cousin Kweku Mandela developed Mandela.is.[4][5] The Mandela.is project was built to help create a movement, inspired by the work and legacy of Nelson Mandela, encouraging people globally to be active in their communities and to effect change locally.

Ndaba received a political science and international relations degree from the University of Pretoria in 2008. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Embassy of Japan in Pretoria as a senior political consultant with a focus upon South Africa.[6]

In April 2013, Ndaba participated in a TED Talk entitled "Why Africa Rising", in which he detailed the mission of the Africa Rising Foundation.[2]

During Nelson Mandela's hospitalization near his 95th birthday, disagreements arose surrounding within the family in regards to possible burial sites, as well as who would serve as the heir of the Mandela family. Ndaba expressed that he wants to steer clear of these arguments, and lead the family "back to basics".[7][8] During this time of uncertainty as to Nelson Mandela's state of health, visits from Ndaba provided the world with updates as to Madiba's condition.[9][10][11] It was revealed on his 95th birthday that the former leader was again awake, responsive, and watching television.[12]
