The National Communications Commission of the Republic of China (NCC; Chinese: 國家通訊傳播委員會; pinyin: Guójiā Tōngxùn Chuánbò Weǐyuánhuì) is responsible for regulating the development of the communications and information industry, promoting competition, consumer protection, licensing, radio frequency, spectrum, broadcasting, content regulation, communications standards and specifications in the Republic of China. The commission is an independent statutory agency of the Executive Yuan. The current Chairman is Howard S.H. Shyr.[1]
The agency is similar to the FCC which regulates and promotes competition in civil communications market in the United States.
History
The NCC is a relatively new independent statutory agency created on February 22, 2006 to regulate the information, communications and broadcasting industry in Taiwan.[2]
NCC was tasked with the responsibility to ensure a level playing field in competition in the communications industry, consumer protection, privacy rights, and the development of universal service for remote and rural regions. It also develop new standards for emerging technologies that will improve access, lower cost and deliver services to remote areas.[3]

Departmental Structure
The agency has a total of seven full-time commissioners serving on three-year tenures. The commissioners elect a Chairperson and vice chairperson to lead the agency.
The agency also includes a law enforcement section designated by the Ministry of Interior.[4]
