Nathan Peter Haas (born 12 March 1989) is an Australian professional road racing cyclist who rides for UCI ProTeam Garmin-Sharp.[1][2] Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Haas currently resides in Girona, Catalonia, Spain.[1]

Career

Originally a mountain biker, Haas represented Australia in two UCI World Championships. However, in 2009, Haas switched to road racing.

In 2011, after he and Genesys Wealth Advisers teammate Steele Von Hoff dominated Australia's domestic National Road Series, Haas won the 2011 Herald Sun Tour,[3] a race which featured a number of UCI ProTeams.[4] After gaining an advantageous position in a six-man breakaway in stage one, Haas also finished second on the key fourth stage, beating general classification rival Jack Bobridge (Garmin-Cervélo). Haas went on to win the 2011 Japan Cup,[5] a race which also featured a number of UCI ProTeams, and whose previous winners include the likes of Claudio Chiappucci, Damiano Cunego, and Gilberto Simoni. After his victory, Haas signed with Garmin-Barracuda.[6][7]

During Haas's fist season professional, he did not, however, win any individual professional races do to severe saddle sores.[8] Although he did finish second overall to Jonathan Tiernan-Locke (Endura Racing) at the Tour of Britain.[9] During the 2013 season, Haas finished sixth overall at the Tour de Langkawi,[10] and competed in his first Grand Tour, the Giro d'Italia.[11] While riding the 2014 Tour Down Under, Haas garnered his first UCI World Tour point,[12] before finishing the race fifth overall.[13]
