Naria (Bengali: নড়িয়া) is an Upazila of Shariatpur District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Geography

Naria is located at 23°18′00″N 90°24′00″E / 23.3000°N 90.4000°E / 23.3000; 90.4000 . It has 40241 units of house hold and total area 240.02 km².

Demographics

At the 1991 Bangladesh census Naria had a population of 214,944. Males constitute 49.99 per cent of the population, and females 50.01 per cent. The population aged 18 and over was 99,265. Naria has an average literacy rate of 30.7 per cent (7+ years), compared to the national average of 32.4 per cent.[1] [2]

Sureswar Darbar Sharif

Naria is famous for Sureswar Darbar Sharif. It is situated in Sureswar Village of this Upazila. There is a launch ghat near the Darbar Sharif. Darbar Sharif is a Muslim Shrine founded by Hazrat Jan Sharif Seha Sureshar Kibla Kaba (R). Present Pir Sheh Sufi Syed Alam Nuri (R:) (born 1963 A.D). Uras sharif of Sureswar Darbar is held from Magh 19 to 21 each year and attended by large number of devotees from different parts of the country. The first Pir of Sureswar was Hazrat Maulana Seha Sufi Syed Ahmed Ali Hazrat Jan Sharif Seha Sureshar Kibla Kaba (R) who was a Muslim saint and Pir. He was spiritually guided in the Marifat discipline of Prophet Mohammad (S) and saint according to Oaisia Tarika. He was very respectful to all section of people. After his death his dissidents were Hazrat Moulana Nur Saha (R:) (died 1361 B.S.), Hazrat Saha Sufi Jalal Nuri (R:) (died 1406 B.S.).[4]

A.F.M Nurul Hoque Ex parliament member assassinated in 1973.A famous patriot was killed by Kamal which is known as "Gaal Kata Kamal" a notorious killer in Eid Day. He was killed in order of some notorious political leader.
