Narek Hakhnazaryan
Narek Hakhnazaryan (Armenian: Նարեկ Հախնազարյան)[1] (born 1988) is an Armenian cellist who won Gold Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.[2]
Biography
Hakhnazaryan was born and grew up in Yerevan, Armenia where he began learning cello at six years of age at the Sayat Nova Music School. When he turned 11, he and his mother moved to Moscow where he joined Moscow Conservatory a year later.[3] There, he took cello lessons along with Alexey Seleznyov and later got scholarship from the Rostropovich Russian Performing Arts Fund. He was a recipient of the First Prize at the Aram Khachaturian International Competition in his native Armenia in 2006 and in 2008 won both the First Place at the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players and First Prize at the International Auditions of the Young Concert Artists.[4] He obtained Artist Diploma by working with Lawrence Lesser at the New England Conservatory and is currently plays David Tecchler's cello which is dated to 1698 and was loaned to him from Jacques Francais's granddaughter named Valentine Saarmaa.[5] With the help from Kim Kashkashian he obtained an apartment complex in Jamaica Plain, Boston, where he currently lives.[3]
Career
2011
As of 2011 he have performed in such orchestras as London Symphony Orchestra of England as well as both Rotterdam and Mariinsky Orchestras under Valery Gergiev. He also performed at American orchestras such as Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Ton Koopman and St. Luke's Orchestra along with Dallas Symphony. When it comes to chamber music and other recitals he performs them at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, at Konzerthaus Berlin as well as Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and American concert halls such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. He also holds performances at various Music Festivals in various cities such as London Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Tivali, and Verbier.[4]
2013
In 2013 he have performed in Estonia under guidance from Neeme Järvi at the Estonian National Symphony and had appeared with Jiří Bělohlávek of Czech Philharmonic. The same year he also appeared with North American orchestras such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Aspen Festival Orchestra and participated at various festivals including bot Carnegie and Zankel Halls as well as Ravinia Festival. He also played Henri Dutilleux's concerto at the Mariinsky Orchestra and then along with Sergey Khachatryan Brahms's Double Concerto both of which were under Valery Gergiev's guidance.[4]
