Namrata Shrestha (born 14 June 1985) is a Nepalese model and an actress. She is well known for her role in the romantic film Sano Sansar released in 2008, "Mero Euta Sathi Cha" and her appearance in music videos.[1] Before embarking on her acting career, she was involved in theater acts and modeling.

Modelling (2005-07)

Shrestha has appeared on the cover of [2] Navyaata Magazine, Wave Magazine,[3] VOW Magazine,[4] Navyaata, Wedding Bells[5] and other magazines. The Kathmandu Post, on its edition of February 21, 2005 mentioned Namrata as one of the top 5 models in Nepal.[6] She has also been featured in Nepali Entertainment portal CyberSansar.com.[7]

Controversy

In September of 2008 a video scandal [8] was released and that happened right after a few days of the release of her second movie “Mero Euta Saathi Chha.” . She was involved with DJ Taantrik[9] in short sex video clip which was rumoured to be distributed by DJ Taantrik's wife. The sex scandal[10] forced her to remain in hiding for a few months [11] before she started acting again in her next movies First Love and Purple Days.

In 2008, Namrata debuted her movie career from Alok Nembang's Sano Sansar where she played the lead role of Reetu. After Sano Sansar's Nepal release raised her profile, she was cast for Mero Euta Saathi Cha which was produced by Sudarshan Thapa and made a huge hit in 2009. Her latest release Chhadke was a commercially hit movie [12] although the movie couldn’t stand up to its hype. Namrata Shrestha is now coming up with two others movies movie Megha [13] and Nepali Movie Maun [14] both slated to release this year.

In 2009, She has walked for Nepal Fashion Week as a show stopper to promote her latest movie.[15]

She appeared in two movies in 2010 First Love, HIV Aids Awareness which was about the awareness of night life in Kathmandu. She also debuted in her first theater called Jalpari which is based on the play of Lady From the Sea.

2011-present

In 2011, she acted as the lead role of Carol in the theater of Oleanna. Under Darpan Production's movie Miss U, she played alongside Dilip Rayamajhi & Varun SJB Rana.[16] Except for playing in the movies, she also works at her own restaurant called Attic[17] in Lazimpat, Kathmandu.

Namrata Shrestha who turned 28 this year celebrated her birthday at Naxal School amongst deaf students. [18]
