The Nalgonda railway station is the major railway station in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh state.
History
A 152KM long Nadikudi-Pagidipalli section foundation stone laid by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 7 April 1974. The Nadikudi-Pagidipalli section was opened for traffic in three phases on 1987, November 1988, April 1989. During this time Nalgonda railway station was opened.[1] This line was completed by Indian Railways.
Passenger Amenities
The railway station has three platforms and computerized railway reservation counters. Approximately 26 to 30 trains pass through this station daily. The railway station is situated on the Nadikudi-Pagidipalli section, an unelectrified single line.
New lines
A new railway line is being constructed from Vishnupuram to Janpahad-Mellacheruvu-Motumarri, where it will join the Kazipet-Vijayawada main line. This route will reduce the distance from Nalgonda to Vijayawada by 40 km when compared to existing route through Guntur.
