Nachum Segal is an American radio DJ. He has hosted the program Jewish Moments in the Morning (commonly abbreviated as JM in the AM) since September 1983.

Early career

A graduate of Mesivta Ohr Torah of Riverdale and Yeshiva University's Yeshiva College, Segal began his radio career at the Yeshiva University campus radio station WYUR (Yeshiva University Radio), in 1981. At the university he acquired the initial skills and technical know-how to host a radio show. During his senior year at Yeshiva, Segal was approached by Norman Laster (Neshoma Show) through Mr. Larry Wachsman (Director of Student Activities at YU) and offered the opportunity to produce and host the Hebrew and Jewish Program at Upsala College's WFMU. (The departing host was Larry Gordon.)

JM in the AM

Segal started at WFMU in September 1983. Since then the show has grown in popularity around the world. Segal's presentation of music, news, and community events accompanies tens of thousands of listeners through their morning routine. Nachum serves as Master of Ceremonies for major New York area concerts and Jewish events.

Upsala College went out of business in 1995. However, station management had purchased the license from the college the previous year, and the station went on to function as an independent entity, moving from East Orange to Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1998. Segal's program was retained during this transitional period and remains in the 6-9 am block Monday through Friday.

JM in the AM has been a constant of Jewish life in the NY metropolitan area for a generation. Often referred to as the “Voice of Klal Yisrael,” Nachum’s warmth, sincerity and overall gentle personality have helped him develop a loyal following and an enthusiastic audience. Nachum’s passion for important causes and his longevity has propelled JM in the AM to be regarded as the radio program of record in the Jewish world. Nachum’s interviews regarding current events are considered must listen radio for many in the community. He is widely known as one of the few in radio to analyze and probe issues from the perspective of the Jewish world. As a result, influential members of the political world – from Ambassadors to Senators to Chevrei Knesset – have sought time on the air and joined Nachum in the studio.

In September 2012, Segal launched the Nachum Segal Network featuring new original programming daily. Hosts include Nachum, General manager Miriam L. Wallach, world renowned motivational speaker Charlie Harary Esq. and many others.

Communal Work

Often the first to step-up and help in moments of crisis, Nachum has been at the forefront of numerous Jewish causes and continues to be an inspiration for Jewish activism. During the recent Operation Pillar of Defense in Israel and the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on the East coast, Nachum again demonstrated his leadership and passion by highlighting conversations with key people, analysts and organizations. In addition, he directed his audience how to help others in need, provided chizuk to his listeners and visited the devastated areas as a sign of solidarity and commitment.

Family

Segal lives on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with his wife Staci (née Weintraub) and their children: Binyamin, Chava, Yosef, Yehoshua, Jonah, Yonina and Gavriel.

He is the son of Esther and the late Rabbi Zev Segal.[1]
