MyPhoneExplorer is a proprietary freeware desktop application allowing management of Sony Ericsson and Android mobile phones. It is developed in Austria and has been translated into many languages, including English. It is available from multiple download sites and was downloaded over 1.5 million times, as of 2007.[1] Softpedia have given it their 100% Free award, and visitors to Softpedia have rated MyPhoneExplorer very highly.[2] The Android client has been highly rated as well.[3]

Features

MyPhoneExplorer can connect to a Sony Ericsson phone using USB cable, Bluetooth or infrared connections. Once connected, address book entries can be synchronised between the phone and MyPhoneExplorer, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird or Google Mail. Calendar entries can also be synchronised with many systems, including Google Calendar.[4]

As with the PC Suite software which is normally shipped with Sony Ericsson mobiles, files can be dragged and dropped to and from the phone's memory and memory stick. Notably, however, MyPhoneExplorer also allows calls to be managed (i.e. dialled and answered) from within the application, and allows SMS text messages to be saved, read, written, sent, etc. directly from a PC. Moreover, it provides feature of back-up and restore which can back up everything like messages, contacts, calendar entries, and files.

Supported phones

MyPhoneExplorer was initially designed for use with Sony Ericsson K700, K750, K800 mobiles, but FJ Software state that it works with all Sony Ericsson phones which are not Symbian-based.

Later versions of the software has support for some Symbian based Sony Erricson phone although some older models are unsupported or require workarounds.[5]

Since version 1.8, MyPhoneExplorer has supported all Android phones running Android 1.6 or higher.

Bundled Applications

MyPhoneExplorer comes bundled with MixiDj Toolbar, DoNotTrackMe, and RegClean Pro.[6] During installation of MyPhoneExplorer you are given an option to opt out of the bundled applications.

Alternative Download Sites and Version

Google Play offers download of MyPhoneExplorer for Android phones, [7] which have been well-received overall. However, reviews of MyPhoneExplorer on its Google Play download page have reported viruses and other malware issues when either downloading or installing it. [8]

In response to this, myphoneexplorer.us offers a USA Malware, Bloatware and Advertisement-Free version, which enables the application user to perform a two-way synchronization of Outlook, GMail, EccoPro, Thunderbird, Lotus Notes, Windows Contacts and Windows Calendar between their PC Desktop and Android Phones and Tablets without the Google Cloud option. Additional information and downloading access is found at the myphoneexplorer.us site. [9]

EccoPro.com's site offers an annual subscription in support of the application for a nominal fee. The complete download bundles the current version of EccoPro, and a subscription for current/new EccoPro or MyPhoneExplorer members including all EccoPro Templates, twenty in-depth EccoPro PDF Tutorials, EccoPro Tech Notes and free Support Programs, and updated, fully automated 32-bit and 64-bit EccoPro and EccoProX installers for XP, Vista, Windows 7 and 8 are provided free of any additional charges. Also included are eight instructional videos for viewing, review or study offline after downloading. [10]

Language translation

Text displayed in MyPhoneExplorer (e.g. in column headings, message boxes, etc.) is read up from installed language files (e.g. English.lng), thereby allowing translation to other languages. MyPhoneExplorer comes with instructions on how to create new language files and there are approximately 40 languages for which such language files have been created (as of 14 October 2007).
