Mustapha M. Farrakhan, Jr. (born November 2, 1988) is an American professional basketball player.
Early life
Farrakhan Jr. was born in Harvey, Illinois on November 2, 1988.[1] He attended Thornton Township High School.[2] Farrakhan has a major in Sociology.[3] Farrakhan is a practicing Muslim.[3]
College
Farrakhan played four years of college basketball at the University of Virginia. In his final year of college, he averaged 13.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31 games played.[4]
Professional
In November 2011, Farrakhan was selected in first round of the 2011 NBA Development League Draft by the Bakersfield Jam.[5] He played 39 games throughout the 2011–12 season averaging 9.0 points, 3.4 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game.[6]
Farrakhan joined the New York Knicks for the 2012 NBA Summer League. In 5 games he averaged 9.6 points, 1.8 assists and 1.6 rebounds.[7] On October 1, 2012, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. However, he was waived on October 27.[8]
On November 1, 2012, Farrakhan was reacquired by the Bakersfield Jam. On November 5, he was traded to the Iowa Energy.[8] On January 28, 2013, he was waived by the Energy.[8] On January 31, 2013, he was acquired by the Sioux Falls Skyforce.[9] On February 25, 2013, he was traded to the Idaho Stampede.[10] He played 6 games for the Stampede before being waived on March 13. He was then acquired by the Tulsa 66ers on March 15 but then waived on March 20 before appearing in a game for them.[8]
On September 30, 2013, he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.[11] However, he was waived on October 8.[12]
On November 18, 2013, Farrakhan signed with the Melbourne Tigers of the Australian National Basketball League.[13]
Personal
Farrakhan is the grandson of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and Khadijah Farrakhan.[2] His father, Mustapha Farrakhan, is a police officer and the Supreme Captain of the Nation of Islam.[14][15] His aunt, Donna Farrakhan Muhammad, the second woman to ever become a minister in the Nation of Islam, is the former Sister Captain of the Muslim Girls Training (MGT).
