Musi Banyuasin is a regency of South Sumatra (or Sumatra Selatan) province, in Indonesia. It has a total area of 14,477 km2 (5,590 sq mi) and a population of 562,584 at the 2010 Census.

The capital of Musi Banyuasin regency is Sekayu.

Geography

Fifteen percent of South Sumatera Province is located between 1.3° to 4° South latitude and from 103° to 104°40′ East longitude. The borders are:

  • Northern: Jambi Province
  • Southern: Muara Enim Regency
  • Western: Musi Rawas Regency
  • Eastern: Banyuasin Regency

Musi Banyuasin regency is further divided into 11 subdistricts:

  • Sekayu
  • Sungai Keruh
  • Babat Toman
  • Sanga Desa
  • Batang Hari Leko
  • Keluang
  • Lais
  • Sungai Lilin
  • Bayung Lencir

Soil

Musi Banyuasin Regency consists of 4 kinds of soil:

  • Organosol: along the swamp and in the plain area

  • Alluvial: along the Musi River
  • Pudzolik: in the hilly area

Climate

Musi Banyuasin Regency has tropic and wet season with variation of rainfall between 39.00 to 297.25 mm, for the year 2007 December has highest rank of rainfaals. Rain days ini 2007 tend to variation between 2.75 to 15.25 days with January has highest rank of rain days.
