Plot

The movie opens with ACP Antony Moses aka Rascal Moses (Prithviraj) getting into an accident which causes him, a partial memory loss. Before the accident, he had solved the murder case of his friend, Assistant Commissioner Aaryan John Jacob (Jayasurya), who was killed during a gallantry awards ceremony at police/parade grounds possibly by a Long range rifle. Antony gets into the accident while talking to his senior officer and brother-in-law Farhan Ashraf (Rahman),Commissioner of police. He tells him that the case is solved. But, before giving the name of the murderer, accident occurs. Farhan tells Antony, about his past and the tragedy occurred to their friend, Aaryan. He reassigns Antony Moses, back to the case. Antony re investigates the case during which he finds out the murderer.

Antony Moses at first struggles with the day to day happenings of his increasingly confusing life he lived which he has no memory of and confronts many problems such as assaults by thugs at his residence, complaints of other residents of his flat and a history of alcoholism. He has no clue on how to lead his life and is irritated as he feels like a puppet. He slowly regains confidence and gets back on duty partly due to motivation by Farhan. He investigates various links of the crime by utilizing clever ideas and implementing it with finesse. As the murder weapon is suggested to be a most modern sniper rifle, he uses the assistance of a professional sharpshooter (Riyaz Khan) in identifying the modus operandi of the criminal, where the sharpshooter suggests the possibility of the rifle capable of being remote controlled and thereby an absence of a real shooter is suggested.

The story takes a twist as Antony Moses discovers darker sides of his own personality and the strength and integrity of the friendship he shared with the "Mumbai Police" group, which is concreted by a personal video taken by the fiancee of Aaryan, just before the award ceremony,in which Aaryan rehearses his speech for the ceremony and gives a heartwarming speech regarding his friendship with Antony. This video causes a visible change in him and he delves deeper into the investigation with more personal desire for the truth.

It is then revealed in a shocking scene that Antony is in fact secretly gay, and had a seemingly sexual relationship with another gay man who happens to be a pilot for an international airline. The memory impaired Antony rebuffs his sexual advances and breaks down knowing the truth about his sexuality and violent personality with criminal tendencies which was a mask to his sexual orientation (which would be regarded as being especially shameful in the police force). It is then shown in a flashback that Aaryan was a witness to one of his sexual affairs and threatened Antony and his lover that he will do what is necessary according to protocol and breaks their friendship. A distraught Antony then plans an elaborate scheme to murder Aaryan at the awards ceremony before he supposedly discloses the shameful truth about Antony.

After the murder, Antony takes up the investigation himself and gradually sees the video clip that showed the integrity of Aaryan and their friendship. It was after this incident that he realizes the futility of his actions and calls up Farhan and had actually already revealed/confessed the fact that he in fact is the murderer. But Farhan being a brilliant police officer had actually used the memory impaired Antony to uncover the proper evidence (Why and How?). The ending scene shows Farhan with a heavy heart filling up the last blank page of the case diary, Antony had submitted and calling up his superiors to report the arrest of Antony as Antony sits before him in silence, after saying emotionally that he truly misses "Mumbai Police".

Development

The film was announced earlier in late 2010. The pooja of the film was held on December 18, 2010. There was a lot of hype for the movie after the unsuccessful film Casanovva starring Mohanlal it was announced to be a top notch "Who's done it" style suspense thriller. The production house 1000 AD Creations was announced to be producing the film. 1000 A.D.Creations Banner, Muhammed Sahir, Naushad, Shaji Narayanan jointly producing this movie's pooja ceremony held. Executive Producer of this movie is Nishanth Haneef, Shreeja Shivadas and Production Controller of this movie is Aroma Mohan.[2] The film was announced to that shooting will start on June 2011 and its a 2011 Christmas Release. This had delayed as the director had to finish up the production work of the film Casanovva.[3] It was later announced that the shooting would commence in November 2011, this also didn't happen.[4] Mumbai Police movie was announced as an upcoming Malayalam movie, which is the hottest spoke among Malayalam cinema industry. The director of this film is none other than, Rosshan Andrrews. He had craved his entire film in unique track. In same series, he has given a new birth to the film, Mumbai police by his dedication and deliberation. On comparing with his award winning film like Notebook, Udayananu Tharam and few more, he has taken this film with one step ahead and he promised that entire industry will give huge response and make it as superior hit. This movie was hyped for how it is engaged with enriched visuals and clear cut dialogues. The technology which he implements in his film will be more advanced as the same is now carried over in the film. The film is clutched with top starts who proven their proficiency towards film industry. So, there will be no reimbursement in this power packed story. Lots of oscillation has been appeared in assembling the team members and their complete response towards the composition of this film. An apex reason of this oscillation and delay is, director has been concentrated in previous film.[5] The production company had withdrawed this film due to means of the storyline and climax which was reveal after the film had released.

Casting

Prithviraj was initially casted to play the leading role as Antony Moses. Arya was casted for the role of ACP Aaryan John.[6] This casting information remained for a while, until media announced the rumours of Mammootty replacing the actor Prithviraj.[7] It was told the reason was; Prithviraj who was considered as the first option for Roshan Andrew's film 'Mumbai Police' which was scheduled to start after the completion of Roshan-Mohanlal starrer 'Cassanova' which got delayed because Mohanlal had given dates for his friend Priyadarshan to film his Hindi flick 'Tezz' and also the Malayalam movie 'Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum'. This delay made Prithviraj's date clash with revised schedule of the film. The lead role has now being reportedly offered to Mammootty after Prithvi backed out.[8][9][10] The director Roshan Andrews had revealed that his new Malayalam movie 'Mumbai Police' will have Prithviraj in the lead as announced earlier. It was reported that something went wrong in between both the director and the actor, and as a result Prithviraj was dropped out from this project and rumours start to spread that either Mammootty or Tamil actor Suriya may play the lead role in it.[11] Initially Nikesha Patel and Roma Asrani were in the lead roles but now its seems that there might be a complete reshuffle as the team is planning to take fresh faces in the film.[12] It was not revealed why Arya had opt out of the role but assumed to be busy schedule with Tamil films and the role was given to actor Jayasurya. There was also rumours as Jayasurya being part of the movie along with Mammootty replacing Prithviraj, this was incidentally false but as the crew realizing how media preferred Jayasurya to do the role along with the superstar Mammootty, Prithviraj hadn't opt out of the film as told by the media and crew decided to cast popular and versatile actor Jayasurya.[13][14][15] Later it was revealed that also with initial production group leaving, Arya opted out due to the dislike of the story and climax.
