Mukandpur is a village near Banga, Nawanshahr district (also known as Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar, in Punjab, India.[1]

Demographics

According to the 2001 Census,[2] Mukandpur has a population of 3,785 people which has towered to above 10,000. Mukandpur has become a popular destination for people from nearby villages to run their local businesses. The big part of the market in the mukadnpur is run by the outsiders. People not from nearby villages are running their businesses here but from other states like Uttar Prades, Bihar and Jharkhand and running their businesses successfully in Mukandpur. There are 5 schools including DAV schoo which has affiliation with the CBSE board. Neighbouring villages include Jagatpur, Prozepur, Talwandi Phattu, Jhingran, Gunachaur, Shokar and Hakimpur.

Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial College Mukandpur

The College was established in 1994.[3]

The parents of Amardeep set up the College in memory of their son. Gurcharn Singh Shergill and Ms. Surinder Kaur decided to open a college in their native village Mukandpur. The Trust and the college overseas committee, Principal and Members of the staff worked in harmony to achieve the objectives and take the college to the zenith of glory. In July 2007 the College acquired the status of being a constituent college of GNDU Amritsar.[3]

Amardeep Mela

The "Amardeep Mela" is organised annually by the Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial College, Mukandpur. An annual feature of the College since its inception, the Mela lasts for four days.[4]

Chaunkian Da Mela

A famous fair known as "Chaunkian da Mela" is held in Mukandpur.[5] A faqir named "Sakhi Sarwar (Lakh Data) came to Balachaur. He started his journey from Rattewal and reached Mukandpur. He stayed here for nine days. Since then this fair is held in Mukandpur and lasts for nine days. A "Saang" starts from Rattewal and reaches Mukandpur. The leader of the "Saang" holds a flag which is called a "Togh".
