Plot

Four girls (Mónica, Elena, Leticia and Isabel) join an art academy pursuing their dreams of a career in acting and singing. These four girls are of different backgrounds:

  • Monica is wealthy but humble and sweet. She dates Rodrigo, who works under her father at their supermarket and drives a taxi on the side. When Rodrigo is framed by Monica's cousin Federico and sent to jail for industrial espionage, she stands by him, but she cannot forget about her previous boyfriend Roger, who was also victim of an attempted murder by Federico.
  • Elena is poor and tough. She was Rodrigo's first girlfriend but Rodrigo dumped her for Monica, causing a rift between the two girls. Later, however, it is revealed that Elena's father was also Monica's biological father; their respective mothers had also been active in theater and had also been friends and rivals.
  • Isabel is middle-class and very selfless. She lives with her widowed father. She gets involved with Pedro, who turns out to be married, but though Pedro's terminally-ill wife forgives her and entrusts her the care of their daughter Betty, she distrusts Pedro.
  • Leticia is also middle-class but a social climber who is not hesitant to speak her mind and to pretend to get on with rich men. She eventually "marries" Federico, not realizing that the wedding had no legal value (because the form had not been filled with the police station), and later is sent to work under her grandmother, who was also once a social climber but has mellowed and become wiser.

The Guys

  • Federico Cantu, a cousin of Monica's who also works for Monica's father, is secretly plotting to take over the company and will not hesitate to kill anyone to achieve power. He frames Rodrigo for industrial espionage that hands a TV ad campaign worked on by Rodrigo and Monica's father to a rival entrepreneur whose daughter Federico had been dating; he then briefly gets involved with Leticia, who loves him, and stages a wedding with no legal value.
  • Rodrigo is Monica's second boyfriend, he works at her father's supermarket in management and drives a taxi on the side.
  • Roger Guzman was Monica's first boyfriend but she dumped him for Rodrigo, because Roger wanted her to be a housewife and mother when she wanted an acting career. He also worked under her father. A falling out with Federico led to Federico attempting to murder him by blowing him up in his car (he survived, however, and later confronted
  • Joaquin is one of the instructors at the art academy, teaching dance. He has a soft spot for Leticia, though he despises her attitude, but is always supportive of the girls.
