Moya is a municipality of Las Palmas province, on the Canary Islands. It is in the northern part of the Grand Canary island or Gran Canaria.
Moya's area is 31.87 km² with a population of about 8,307 (ISTAC, 2003) and its density is 250.63/km².
Moya is situated in the mountains while the valleys cover the northern part, the mountains cover the southern part. Farmlands are within the coastline, the Atlantic Ocean lies to the north. Moya is located W of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and GC2, N of Puerto Rico and W of Arucas and is linked with a major highway linking Puerto Rico and Arucas. The main industry are agriculture, businesses and tourism.

History and information
The northern part of Gran Canaria was covered in forests during the Spanish conquest of the 15th century. All that's left today are two redoubts, the Finca de Osorio in Teror and the Tilos de Moya. Here, the native chief, Doramas, took refuge after attacking the Castilian conquerors, giving the name Selva de Doramas or "Doramas' Wood". These days, there are old caserios (country-houses) between hills and cliffs with its medicinal waters.[1] The town area is surrounded by huge volcanic valleys and is well known for its fantastic Neo-Romanesque church. This impressive structure dates back to the first half of the 20th century and is the birthplace of famous Spanish poet, Tomas Morales.[2]
