Movie Magic Screenwriter is a word processing program sold by Write Brothers, Inc. to format screenplays, teleplays and novels.[1]

History

Write Brothers' first software program, Scriptor (1982), was the world's first screenplay formatter.

Screenwriter was originally developed by ScriptPerfection Enterprises, Inc., under the name ScriptThing. The program was purchased by Write Brothers, with the transition completed in 2001.

Awards and Partnerships

The Mac version of Screenwriter won a Macworld Editor's Choice Award for the year 2000.

Due to its popularity, Movie Magic Screenwriter was named a preferred file format of the online registry of the Writers Guild of America, West.

Movie Magic Screenwriter is the official scriptwriting software of Project Greenlight, Writers Guild of America, East,[2] The Script-a-thon,[3] Screamfest, Cinema Seattle, Austin Film Festival, the UCLA Online Screenwriting Program and, most recently, Scripped.[4][5]

Program features

The program is designed to automate the formatting of Action, Character Name, Dialog and other elements associated with writing screenplays using Command line completion. This is done mainly via the Tab and Enter/Return keys.
