Mounthill

Coordinates: 54°48′32″N 5°51′50″W / 54.809°N 5.864°W / 54.809; -5.864 Mounthill is a small village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, near Larne. As of the 2001 Census, it has a population of 69 people. It is situated in the Larne Borough Council area.

Mounthill Fair, which takes place in October each year, is predominantly a horse fair (with shire horses dominating). The fair is nearly 300 years old and is said to have begun with a Charter from King James of England.

People

The grandfather of Andrew Johnson, 17th President of the United States, left Mounthill around 1750 and settled in North Carolina. Andrew worked there as a tailor and ran a successful business in Greeneville, Tennessee before being elected Vice-President. He became President following Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
