Moscow Township is a civil township of Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,445 at the 2000 census. The headwaters for the south branch of the Kalamazoo River arise in the south of the township. There is a Headwaters Park located on U.S. Highway 12 near the Township Hall. According to the township web page, Moscow was first called "Little Kalamazoo," and that the name Moscow was chosen by drawing the name out of a hat.
Moscow Township was established in 1835.[3]

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.4 square miles (92 km2), of which, 35.2 square miles (91 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) of it (0.79%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,445 people, 522 households, and 410 families residing in the township. The population density was 41.1 per square mile (15.9/km²). There were 554 housing units at an average density of 15.8 per square mile (6.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.41% White, 0.62% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.
There were 522 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.6% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.3% were non-families. 17.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the township the population was spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 104.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.7 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $44,740, and the median income for a family was $49,464. Males had a median income of $36,705 versus $25,714 for females. The per capita income for the township was $18,682. About 2.7% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.
