Montreal Le National
The Le National or Montreal Nationals was an amateur, and later professional, men's senior-level ice hockey team in a few of the top leagues prior to the formation of the National Hockey League. They were noteworthy as one of the first ice hockey teams composed of francophone players, as the amateur ice hockey associations prior to then were dominated by anglophones.
Leagues
Le National played exhibition games against established teams until 1903, when Le National and the Montreal Montagnards fielded a joint team in the Federal Amateur Hockey League for the 1904 season. The following season, the agreement with Le Montagnard fell apart after Didier Pitre and Jack Laviolette left to play professional hockey in Pittsburgh.[1]
Le National fielded teams in:
- Canadian Amateur Hockey League in 1905
- Canadian Hockey Association in 1909–10
- Interprovincial Amateur Hockey Union in 1911–12
- Montreal City Hockey League (1911–12, 1914–15 - 1922–23)
- Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey League ( 1923–24 - ?)
