Monte Montgomery (born August 11, 1966) is an American guitarist and singer-songwriter.

Biography

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he at age 13 moved to San Antonio, Texas, soon to become a local rock-star.^[1]

Renown came to Montgomery after he appeared on PBS's Austin City Limits program on April 17, 1999 in what was described by press as 'jaw dropping performance'.^[2]

Montgomery was on Guitar Player magazine's 2004 list of "The Top 50 All-Time Greatest Guitarists".^{[citation needed]} Montgomery has also won the "Best Acoustic Guitar Player" award at the SXSW Festival’s Austin Music Awards seven years in a row (1998–2004), the only artist to have ever done so.^{[citation needed]}

Montgomery is a composer. He has authored music for the criminal drama Arc (2006)^[3] and music for the ABC TV series Last Man Standing starring Tim Allen.^[4]

On January 24, 2004, Alvarez Guitars unveiled the MMY1 Monte Montgomery Signature Guitar, a model based on Montgomery's 1987 Alvarez-Yairi DY62C Acoustic-Electric Guitar. Due to his intense playing style, Montgomery has broken the neck of his DY62C four times—the MMY1 has a reinforced neck to prevent such breakage.^[5]

In January, 2014, German amplifier manufacturer AER teamed up with Monte Montgomery to develop a new signature MM200 acoustic amp. The new amp is expected to be unveiled at NAMM 2014.^[6]

Personal life

Monte has had three children. Daughter, Melyssa is his eldest child from his first marriage. Son, Mason is his youngest child from his second marriage. In the early morning hours of March 30, 2009, Sofia Anna Mondini (January 7, 1988—March 30, 2009-^[7]), the 21-year old daughter of Monte Montgomery and ex-girlfriend Angela Mondini,^[7] was shot and killed by a friend allegedly "playing" with a loaded handgun.^[8] Justin Radwin pointed a .22-caliber pistol at Mondini, and after it discharged it struck her in the right chest area. Radwin was arrested on the charge of manslaughter and held on $50,000 bail.^[9] He was sentenced to twelve years in prison in 2010.^[10]
