Montauk State Park is a Missouri State Park at the headwaters of the Current River near Salem, Missouri that is famous for its rainbow trout and brown trout angling. It has 1,396 acres (5.65 km2) and was acquired in 1926.
The park has several different natural springs with a daily average flow is 53 million gallons of water.
Fishing
The normal trout season runs from March 1 to October 31, with an additional weekends-only catch and release season running from the 2nd Friday in November until the 2nd Monday in February.
Montauk has 3 distinct fishing areas of zones: Catch-and-release- trout may not be possessed, and must be returned unharmed immediately. Only flies may be used. Fly fishing- a fly shall be constructed on a single point hook of feathers, tinsel, chenille, yarn, fur, silk, rayon or nylon thread or floss, with or without a spinner. Artificial and natural baits- artificial lures and natural bait, any bait, including lures, natural bait or flies may be used.
A state fishing license and daily trout tags are required and can be purchased from the state park concessionaire. The daily limit of trout is four, possession limit eight trout.
Other attractions
The park has its own hatchery, store, cabins, and motel rooms. The park also has an extensive RV and campsite area it is located on the Current River just as the stream exits the park boundaries.
The Montauk mill is available for tour. The original mill was built in 1870, and the current standing mill was built in 1893. The mill ceased operations in 1927.[1]
