Monica Calhoun (born July 29, 1971) is an American film and television actress. She is best known for her roles in the films Bagdad Cafe, The Players Club, The Salon, The Best Man, and its sequel The Best Man Holiday. Calhoun was Nominated for an Emmy for her performance in the CBS Schoolbreak Special "Different Worlds: A Story of Interracial Love" (1993). Calhoun was also nominated for the Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture Image Award for her portrayal of Mia Morgan in the 1999 comedy-drama film The Best Man.
Biography
Calhoun was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a child star she worked with director F. Gary Gray (Set It Off) in a play . Calhoun graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for Arts alongside Anthony Anderson, Shondrella Avery, Tammy Townsend, and Jenna Elfman. She has also worked with Award winning actor Blair Underwood, R&B singer Shanice Wilson and Fame director and producer, Chris Stokes (He's Got Game) on a television pilot. Calhoun co-starred with actor Flex Alexander in the short-lived series, "Where I Live." Calhoun has also co-starred with veteran actors Robert Guillaume ("Benson") and Pam Grier in the television production, "Pacific Station."
Career
Calhoun appeared in several sitcoms including Bagdad Cafe (TV series- Starring Role), The Wayans Bros., A Different World and The Jamie Foxx Show. Her film work includes portraying the cousin of actress LisaRaye in Ice Cube's directorial debut The Players Club;The Best Man; Love & Basketball (film) and 2007's The Salon with Vivica Fox. In 2009 Robert Townsend directed Monica Calhoun, Series Star, A Diary Of A Single Mom, Season I, II and III (2008–2010) with Richard Roundtree("Shaft", 1971–73), Leon, Billy Dee Williams and Diahann Carroll. Monica Calhoun was the protagonist in the HBO special called Daddy's Girl or Daddy's Home. She was also the protagonist in the CBS Schoolbreak Special "What About Your Friends".
