Monday Night Mayhem

Monday Night Mayhem is a 2002 television film about the origin of ABC's television series Monday Night Football. It debuted on the U.S. cable TV network TNT. It was based on the 1988 book of the same title by Marc Gunther and Bill Carter.

Cast

Legendary sportscaster Howard Cosell is portrayed by John Turturro. The film also stars Eli Wallach (as ABC-Television president Leonard Goldenson), John Heard (as ABC Sports chief Roone Arledge), Nick Turturro (as Monday Night Football director Chet Forte) and Jay Thomas (as National Football League commissioner Pete Rozelle). Co-hosts Don Meredith and Frank Gifford are played respectively by Brad Beyer and Kevin Anderson.

Related films

In the same year, Jon Voight portrayed Howard Cosell in the Michael Mann biopic Ali (2002). Voight's performance earned him an Academy Award nomination.
