Mona Al-Alawi (Arabic: منى آل علوي) ,[1] better known by her stage name Mona Louise Rey (born August 19, 2004 in Manila, Philippines), is a Filipina child actress and commercial model. She is currently a contract artist of GMA Network.

Career

Rey started her career in showbusiness playing the title role of Jennifer Montereal in the hit GMA Network family drama Munting Heredera.[2][3] She then portrayed the role of Fatima Salvador, a blind girl with a golden heart who is the offspring of a mortal and a manananggal, in the same network's fantaserye Aso ni San Roque.[4]

Personal life

Rey is the youngest of four siblings of a Filipina mother, the former Fatima Marbella, and a Bahraini father, Samier Al-Alawi. Due to her father's attitude problems, Rey's mother separated from her father soon after her mother gave birth to her then returned to Manila with Mona in 2004. Rey's mother left her three elder children with him and would not be returned by their father to her in Manila until 2006.[1]

Rey suffers from Type 1 diabetes, a disease she was diagnosed with in 2011, the year she started her career in showbusiness. She is the only one in her family who suffers from the illness. As a result, she has to mainatain a strict daily regimen of insulin self-injections and avoiding foods and drinks rich in sugar and carbohydrates.[5]
