Mohammed Salem Al Enazi (Arabic: محمد سالم العنزي) is a retired Qatari football striker. He is one of the top goal scorers for Qatar, scoring 34 goals.[1]

Biography

Enazi was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His parents were born in Kuwait, but descended from Syria. He was stateless, but soon moved to Qatar where he then became a citizen.[2] He started his playing career in the youth team of Umm Salal, then in the Qatari 2nd Division, as a goalkeeper. At the age of 13, he moved to Al Rayyan, playing there until 2000. He was the world's fourth highest scorer in 1996,[3] which is the first and only time a Qatari has made the list. Iraqi club Talaba SC tried to sign him on loan 1996, which would have made him the first foreign professional footballer in Iraq, but the transfer was never materialized.[4] In 1997, he played in a friendly match against World XI, being 1 of the 12 players representing Asia XI. He scored a goal in the match, although Asia XI went on to lose 3–5.[5]

After loan spells to Al Nasr and Al Qadsia, he played exclusively in United Arab Emirates. He had trials for European clubs, most notably Bayern Munich and West Ham United.[6] He received Emirati citizenship in 2004.[7] His brother, Mohannad Salem Al Enazi, also has Emirati citizenship, and has represented the UAE national team at the senior level.[8]

He currently works as the general supervisor of Emirati club Al Jazira as of 2012.[9]
