Mohamed Al Zeno (Arabic: محمد زينو) (born 5 February 1983 in Aleppo, Syria) is a Syrian professional footballer who plays for Saham, which competes in the Omani League the top division in Kuwait.[1]
Club career
Early career
Al Zeno's career began with the Al-Ittihad Aleppo youth squad under coach "Omar Al Shaaban" in the "Al Smoud Football school" in Aleppo, he went later to the youth team from Al-Shorta Aleppo. After playing a few games in the Al-Shorta under-17 youth team, he was considered Al-Shorta's professional team and, in 1999, signed his first professional contract.
Al-Shorta Aleppo
In season 1999-2000 Al Zeno played for Al-Shorta's professional team in the Syrian second Division and reached the rise in the Syrian Premier League, he finished as top goalscorer of the Syrian second Division. After the Syrian League season 2001-2002, Al-Shorta Aleppo was dissolved and Al Zeno went to Damascus and signed a two year contract with Al-Shorta Damascus.
Al-Shorta
Al Zeno played tow seasons with Al-Shorta Damascus, his first saison with Al-Shorta Damascus was in season 2002-03, he scored his first goal for his new team on 1 November 2002 against "Al-Yaqaza Deir ez-Zor" in the Syrian Premier League.
Al-Jaish
Al Zeno transferred to Al-Jaish in 2004. He played with Al-Jaish three season's, in his first season with Al-Jaish, Al Zeno won the 2004 AFC Cup, the second most important association cup in Asia. In the quarter finals re-match on 21 September 2004 against India Champions East Bengal, he scored one goal. The game ended 3–0 for Al-Jaish. In the semi finals against Singapore's Champion Home United he scored two goals and reached with his team the AFC Cup finals.
Al-Majd
On July 2007, Al Zeno transferred to Al-Majd and formed an impressive attacking triangle with Syrian forward Raja Rafe. In the 2007–08 season Al Zeno scored 11 goals as Al-Majd finish in second-place and he scored two goals in the Arab Champions League 2007-08, the first goal was on 30 September 2007 against Al-Hilal in the Round of 32, the second goal was on 25 December 2004 against Raja Casablanca the game ended 1–1.
The following season Al Zeno finished as top scorer in the 2008–09 Syrian Premier League season with 17 goals and he scored three goals at the 2009 AFC Cup.
Rah Ahan F.C.
On 18 September 2009, Al Zeno moved to Rah Ahan in the Iranian Pro League and signed a One year contract,[2] but after four months the contract has been dissolved.[3]
He played his first game for Rah Ahan on 6 October 2009 against PAS Hamedan in the Persian Gulf Cup.
Al-Arabi
On January 2010, Al Zeno moved to Al-Arabi in the Kuwaiti Premier League and signed a six months contract.[4] He made his KPL debut in the game against Al Salibikhaet on 14 January 2010 in which he scored two goals. The game ended 3–0 for Al-Arabi.
Al-Karamah
On August 2010, Al Zeno moved to Al-Karamah in the Syrian Premier League. He played his first game for Al-Karamah on 14 September 2010 against Muangthong United in the 2010 AFC Cup Quarter-finals.
Al-Naser
On 1 February 2011, Al Zeno moved to Al-Naser in the Kuwaiti Premier League.[5] He played his first game for Al-Naser on 3 February 2011 against Al-Qadsia in the Kuwaiti Premier League.
International career
Al Zeno has been a regular for the Syria national football team since 2004. In the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification, he came on as a substitute for Raja Rafe in the match against Bahrain on 13 October 2004 in the Abbasiyyin Stadium in Damascus, the match was finished 2–2.
He was a part of the Syria national football team in the 2007 Nehru Cup in India. He scored two goals in the friendly tournament, he also scored in a 4–1 win over Kyrgyzstan and a 5–1 win over Cambodia.
He scored two goals in Syria's 3–0 win over Afghanistan and he scored one goal in Syria's 4–1 win over Indonesia in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier.[6]
In the 2009 Nehru Cup in India, Al Zeno scored one goal in a 2–0 victory over Kyrgyzstan in Syria's opening match of the tournament.[7] He also scored a goal in Syria's 4–0 win over Sri Lanka and another in the 1–0 win over Lebanon and finished as top scorer of the friendly tournament.
Al Zeno was selected to Valeriu Tiţa's 23-man final squad for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.[8] On 17 January 2011, he scored one goal against Jordan in the Asian Cup third group match against Jordan. Syria lost the match 1–2.
