Mithaq Kazimi (Pronunciation: Mi-sáq Ka-zi-mi) is a film producer and director, mostly known for his feature-length documentary 16 Days in Afghanistan and a film festival director of Dawn Breakers International Film Festival. His other projects include a series of short films, Through Her Eyes [1] made in and with India's Parallel Cinema cast and crew and a few public service announcement videos about HIV, Martin Luther King's speech and for Child Rights and You.[2] He also produced the widely-televised video Quenching The Light and recently a documentary about a CNN Hero's foundation, The Miracle Babies.[3]
He has appeared on major TV channels, including on a consecutive three week series on Salaam Afghanistan and the broadcast of his speech on Martin Luther King Day in San Diego Golden Hall via NBC and KPBS.[4] Many well-known musicians have provided the score for his film including Farhad Darya, Larry Porter, Ahmad Shah Hassan and Hariprasad Chaurasia.
The Hindu, India's second largest newspaper, noted Mithaq Kazimi's Through Her Eyes and Rituparno Ghosh’s Raincoat as the inspiration for the Tamil film Gnabagangal (2009).[5]
In 2010, he made a film about the life of Azim Khamisa, Tariq Khamisa and Tony Hicks with the Tariq Khamisa Foundation.[6] Recently, he has launched a personal blog called Perspactive in which he shares everyday thoughts, photos, videos and posts interviews with some prominent figures including camera inventor Ren Ng, author Julio Savi, comedian Aman Ali, architect Fariborz Sahba and others.[7]
In 2012, a selection of his photography from across Mexico was exhibited in California.[8]
