Misty Dawn (born May 15, 1963) is the pseudonym of adult video performer Laurie Rose. Rose worked in pornographic films and videos, and she danced as an exotic dancer. She married pornographic actor John "Johnny Wadd" Holmes in 1987, and, after his death, she published his autobiography and appeared in several films about his life.
Holmes stopped making adult films in the early 1980s. According to Rose, "John thought one porn person in the family was enough. And the AIDS thing was just starting to come out. Nobody had gotten it yet; but it was still in the back of our minds. He thought, ‘Well, if I’m going to take a chance, that’s enough.'"[1]
In 1998, she appeared in the documentary, Wadd: The Life & Times of John C. Holmes.
In 1999, Rose made a return to adult films after a 15-year retirement. She returned again in 2003 in the film Voyer Vision.
Relationship with John Holmes
Laurie Rose was married to the late adult film star John Holmes from 1987 until his death from complications from AIDS on March 13, 1988. According to Rose, she first met Holmes in December 1982 on the film set for a porn feature film they were working on together in San Francisco entitled Marathon, soon after he was released from jail in connection with the Wonderland Murders.
They remained close for five years, then they married in 1987 at Las Vegas' Little Chapel of the Flowers. "John kept the marriage secret," Rose says, "because he was a very private person. Thus, when he died, many acquaintances in the industry and journalists reporting on his death were surprised to learn that we were married."[1]
Business ventures
For a brief time in the mid-1980s, she and Holmes were in business with Bill Amerson in an adult film company known as "Penquin Productions". The Holmes' also lived at Amerson's mansion in the hills of Sherman Oaks. Holmes was godfather to Amerson's children.[2]
Books
In 1998, Laurie Holmes released the John Holmes autobiography, Porn King: Autobiography of John C. Holmes.[3] In 2012, Porn King was re-published by BearManor Media. The book was revised with added material and photos.[1]
