Miroslaw Balka (born 1958), born in Warsaw, is a famous contemporary Polish sculptor.
Balka graduated from Warsaw's Academy of Fine Arts in 1985.[1]

From 1986 to 1989 worked in the group Consciousnes Neue Bieriemiennost.

1991 – Mies van der Rohe – Stipendium, Krefeld. Member of Akademie der Kunste, Berlin.
In 2009, Balka installed How It Is (2009), the 10th Unilever Series commission for the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, which opened on 13 October 2009.[2][3][4]

Work

Active in the fields of sculpture, drawing and video.

Runs the Spatial Activities Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warszawa. Works in Otwock and Warszawa.

Author of Memorial dedicated to the victims of "Estonia" ferry . Stockholm, 1997 . In 2009 made a project "How It Is" at Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, London.
