Miro Weinberger is a Vermont politician and Mayor of Burlington, Vermont.[3]

Political life

Weinberger was formerly a member of the airport commission for Burlington.[4] He was the Chittenden County Democratic Chair during the 2004 election cycle.[5]

Mayor of Burlington

Weinberger was elected mayor of Burlington on March 6, 2012. He is the first Democratic mayor since current Independent US Senator Bernie Sanders took office in 1981.[3] In the election for Mayor, Weinberger was endorsed by Sanders as well as former Progressive Mayor Peter Clavelle and Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin.[3] Weinberger won with 57.7 percent of the vote.[3]

Personal

Weinberger married Stacy Sherwat in 2000 and they have two daughters, Li Lin and Ada.[4][5][1] He plays catcher for the Burlington Cardinals in an over-35 men's baseball league.[6] Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee is also on the team.[4] In addition to politics, he is board president of the Turning Point Center for Chittenden County, and on the board of the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center.[5]
