Mini-Comet was a kiddie roller coaster at Hersheypark that was in operation from 1974 until 1978.[1]

Ride history

The Mini-Comet was an oval shaped kiddie coaster. The trains were painted blue, while the track was painted red. It operated in two locations in Hersheypark; near the Comet in Comet Hollow and in Minetown next to the Himalaya. Very little information is known about the ride, and there are very few pictures, however a video of the ride from 1976 can be found here VIDEO

Charles J. Jacques wrote in his book Sweetness of Success that it was an Allen Herschel built ride.[1] However, based on a picture from 1978, it appears to be a Carl Miler ride.[2]
Mini-Comet on the 1975 map

What is definitively known about Mini-Comet is that it is shown on Hersheypark's 1975[3] and 1977 maps, but not on the 1974 or 1980 maps.[4] The name was also thought to be Little Comet,[2] but park maps showing the ride say Mini-Comet.

The ride was in at least two locations in the park. In 1975, it was in Comet Hollow on the west bank of Spring Creek between the high bridge and the ride Mini-Comet was named for, The Comet. It was relocated to the current Minetown area of the park, adjacent to a kiddie ride (Outboard MotorBoats), in 1976. It was shown on both the 1977 and 1978 park maps.[5] In 1979 and beyond, it was no longer in the park.[4]
