Milka Malfait

Milka Marie Madeleine Malfait (born June 19, 1990) is a lawyer and politician for the Flemish Liberal party Open Vld in Belgium.[1]

Early life and education

Malfait is the granddaughter of Miep Stegmann, the first female psychiatrist in Belgium.

In secondary school she studied Latin-Mathematics.

While she was studying law at the University of Hasselt she founded the Flemish Liberal Student's Association of Hasselt in 2009 with some fellow students. [2] In law school she studied public and governmental law.

In 2013, Malfait went to North Korea as one of the first western people for research on her thesis.[3] Currently she is investigating the legal system and the investment possibilities in the D.P.R.K.[4]

Media appearances and popular culture

Malfait got international media attention when she was running for municipal elections in 2012 in her hometown Sint-Truiden. The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal showed great interest in her initiative.[5] For her campaign she reproduced the famous Tennis Girl poster.
