Miles Jones (musician)

Miles Jones (born 1983) is a Canadian hip hop/soul musician. Miles founded Mojo Records and Publishing in 2004 to provide an outlet for artists, producers and Dj's to produce and publish audio works. Miles career began with a solo album he released in 2006 release which was his University thesis project titled One Chance. In 2009 he followed up with Hip Hop sophomore album titled, Runaway Jones, which landed placements on CSI Las Vegas, ABC's Rookie Blue and CTV's 2010 Olympic games soundtrack of the nation.

Biography

It’s a familiar story not only in hip-hop but in business at large, that the most outstanding opportunities are often those we create ourselves. Artistically minded entrepreneurs who are able to balance business and art advantageously in the urban Canadian music industry, however, aren’t exactly of a common breed. But such savvy individuals do exist and tend to stand out from the rest, like Toronto representing triple-threat emcee, producer, and songwriter Miles Jones, who sees prime real estate when he looks out into the vast and unclaimed Canadian hip-hop landscape.

A whirlwind of endeavors and successes have followed Jones since he founded his own label Mojo Records & Publishing in 2004. Shortly after releasing his debut album One Chance as his graduating University Thesis at McMaster in 2006, he began work on his sophomore album Runaway Jones (2009) and managed to acquire impressive features from hip-hop stars Boi-1da, Black Milk, Percee P, Kae Sun, and Shad K. Along with executive producer and manager Marshall Tully, Jones crafted a classic boom-bap influenced hip-hop sound infused with familiar strains of house that has proved immensely agreeable: Runaway Jones charted #3 on iTunes Canada, and the “Coast to Coast” was picked up by CBS for Las Vegas CSI and CTV for the 2010 Olympics broadcast. Other accolades for Runaway Jones include a 2009 Independent Music Award for “Song of The Year” and a prize for the 2010 Billboard Song Contest.

So, he’s got the reach, but does he have the home-town flavor? Check. Usually sporting a blue-jays cap, Miles has traversed several stages in live settings, moving, bending and hyping engaging crowds for his own performances as well as shows for international acts like Reflection Eternal, Raekwon, KRS-One, Souls of Mischief, K-OS, and T-Pain. Jones’s infectious emcee charisma has probably been shaped by a thing or two he has picked up from his Dad “Hedley Jones Jr., an influential DJ in the early Toronto club scene, but his live performance is something to see because of the on-stage chemistry between he long-time collaborator DJ Serious. More than anything, however, it is Miles Jones’s hard work and perseverance toward broadening his career and craft that makes this well-rounded Toronto artist someone to watch. In addition to his activities as a DJ producer, songwriter, emcee, and owner of Mojo Records, Jones is also a contributing affiliate of the creative group and collective, which has produced most of Jones’s unique visuals (photo and video) including the perception warming video for “Trust Me” and the back-alley-rap video for “Never Wrong (Remix)” that accompanied his breakthrough into the U.S. marketplace. Miles’ multi-talents are invaluable not only because he is emerging on the cusp of the DIY-internet driven market, but more importantly, because they allow him complete artistic control over his music and public image. With a musical past behind him and an industry break-through present, Miles’ bright future is soon to be a part of yours, too.
