Milad (Arabic: ميلاد) is a masculine Arabic and Persian given name. The word Milad originates from the Arabic Mawlid, which means "birth", the implied idea being the celebration of an individual's birth, however, later on "Milad" took on the meaning of any general religious ceremony, which are sometimes less commonly known as "Milad Mahfils". In Christian Arab communities, Milad is a very common given name attributed to the birth of Christ which is celebrated on Christmas. In Iran, the most common and most famous kind of Milad is that of the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, known in the subcontinent as Milad-un-Nabi.
