Mike Banks (mountaineer)

Mike Banks MBE (22 December 1922 – 9 February 2013) was a British climber and mountaineer. He climbed in all continents and the Arctic. During his career as an officer in the Royal Marines, he was a member of the British North Greenland Expedition (1952 to 1954).

In 1958, he made the first ascent of Rakaposhi with Tom Patey as part of a British-Pakistani joint forces Himalayan expedition.^[1]

At the age of 77, in May 2000, he climbed the Scottish sea stack, the Old Man of Hoy becoming the oldest person to have done so.^[2]
