Mid-Continent University is a four-year, liberal arts Christian institution located near Mayfield, Kentucky. It is experiencing financial troubles and has been placed on "warning status" by its regional accreditor the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.[1]

History

The university opened in January 1949 in Clinton, Kentucky. The University is now located four miles north of Mayfield.[2]

By 1992, LaVerne Butler, then-president of the university facilitated the school's accreditation. He retired in 1997. The university is raising funds for a chapel which will be named in Butler's honor.[3]

Academics

The university offers three bachelor's degrees: (bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and bachelor of ministry) and two associate's degrees: (associate of arts and associate of science).[4]

Athletics

Mid-Continent teams are known as the Cougars. The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA); primarily competing in the NAIA's American Midwest Conference (AMC), the Cougars also compete as a member of the Division I Mid-East Region of the NCCAA. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cheerleading and soccer; while women's sports include basketball, cheerleading, softball and volleyball.[5]
