He is also trained in Carnatic music. After his fifth standard, he got into the prestigious Trinity College of Music, London. He graduated from the eight-year music course in 2002.

Career

Mickey has stated that he became addicted to music because of A. R. Rahman who he hails as an inspiration and his most favorite musician and whose music he grew up listening to mostly.[1][2] He decided to become a music director after graduating from Trinity College. He approached Tammareddy Bharadwaja who gave him his first break in the form of Pothe Poni(2005). This was succeeded by 10th Class (2006) and Notebook (2007). Thereafter, he was signed by Sekhar Kammula for the film Happy Days, which received widespread acclaim and was considered one of the best albums of the year.[3][4] He received the best music director award at the three major Telugu film award ceremonies (Filmfare Awards South, Nandi Awards and CineMAA Awards) for the film. It was also the first film for which he composed the film score too.

The success of Happy Days led to remakes of the film in Kannada and Tamil and Mickey was retained as the music director for both movies(Jolly Days and Inidhu Inidhu respectively)[5] marking his entry into other Indian film industries. Following this breakthrough album, he composed the score and songs for the Telugu films Hare Ram and Kotha Bangaru Lokam which slowly established him in the Telugu film industry and he second time received the best music director award Kotha Bangaru Lokam at the two major Telugu film award ceremonies (Filmfare Awards South, Nandi Awards) won consecutively. He then delivered two musical entertainers Leader and Maro Charitra. He was one of the four music directors for Anaganaga O Dheerudu, composing the song 'Chandamamala'.
