George Henry "Mick" Exley (15 November 1911[1] — February 1990)[2] birth registered in Wakefield district, was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1920s, '30s and '40s, playing at representative level for Great Britain (non-Test matches), England, and Yorkshire, and at club level for Wakefield Trinity, as a Second-row, i.e. number 11 or 12 during the era of contested scrums.

Playing career

International honours

Mick Exley won caps for England while at Wakefield Trinity in 1932 against Wales, in 1933 against Other Nationalities, and in 1939 against France.[3]

Mick Exley was selected for Great Britain while at Wakefield Trinity for the 1936 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand.[4]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Mick Exley played Left-Second-row, i.e. number 11 in Wakefield Trinity's 1312 victory over Wigan in the 1945–46 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 4 May 1946.[5]

As can be seen from the birth details at FreeBMD,[1] there is no mention of "Mick", or "Michael" in his birth registration.
