Michael Wilhoite (born December 7, 1986) is an American football linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Washburn where he played saftey.[1]

Prior to playing in the NFL, his coaches would use him at other positions due to his athleticism, which also included quarterback in high school. He had played six different positions in total during his college career.

In December of 2011, almost two years out of college and working as a sneaker salesmen at his local Finish Line, Wilhoite signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent.

He displayed excellent jumping ability in the 2010 NFL Draft combine. His 36.5" vertical leap was seven inches higher than that of linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who was also the 49ers third-round pick in the same draft and eventual All-Pro.[2] His vertical was also an inch and a half higher than Rolando McClain, who was the first linebacker selected and eighth overall pick in the draft.

After being on the practice squad for twelve weeks in 2012, he was promoted to the 49ers active roster. He finished with 11 tackles and made several key plays on special teams during the 49es run to Super Bowl XLVII.[3]

He impressed offensive teammates in practice and showed the ability perform at the NFL level. He then remained part of the 49ers active roster the next season.[4]
