Metropolitan University (Bengali: মেট্রোপলিটন ইউনিভার্সিটি) or MU is a Private University in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The University was established on 3 May 2003 under the Private University Act 1992.^[1] Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury is the Founder & Chairman of Metropolitan University,Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Mission

Metropolitan University (MU) is working to make proper educated, technologically efficient, highly productive class citizens to attain glorious careers, to enjoy enriched lives, and to make direct contribution to all people mainly of the country.

We believe that our mission includes providing a world class student centered learning environment, where student would learn how to learn. MU ensuring professionally sound faculty members, dedicated to student's success. We are also continuing support to education as a force of change and development, the University has been established to provide a high quality of education to meet the demands of the modern age. Metropolitan University is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

An environment will be provided to the faculty members where they can develop further their teaching skills and contribute to the innovation and discovery of new knowledge by developing and using their research skills.

The university has four schools. These are :

Research and Publication

Almost all the departments of the university are very active in research oriented works and projects. Both the teachers and students frequently published various kind of research article in various international journals and conferences. The university also published a journal called Metropolitan University Journal in every two year.

Admission of Foreign Students

Foreign students meeting equivalent admission qualification are eligible for admission as regular students or as special students for full duration or a part of the duration and may acquire transfer credits. In case of the latter, the recommended minimum duration of residence in the first year and the second year is one term. The University may enroll foreign students under an exchange programme established between The Metropolitan University and students' concerned University.

Admission is also open to all those who wish to pursue courses or a course as non-degree students to improve their knowledge or acquire new skills. Students are also admitted for specific certificate or diploma courses.

Credit Transfer

Credit Transfer to the universities in the USA, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many other European universities are available for all our undergraduate & postgraduate programs.
