2013 Metro Bowl Final
St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School 34, Central Technical School 1

The Metro Bowl has traditionally been the championship game for Secondary School football teams in the Greater Toronto Area from 1982 until 2013.

The game has been held annually during the later part of November or early December at a venue in or in close proximity to the City of Toronto.

Schools with multiple titles are: St. Michael's College School, Toronto (7); Central Technical School, Toronto 2; Nelson High School (Ontario), Burlington (2); Northern Secondary School (Toronto) (2); Richview Collegiate Institute, Toronto (2); St. Patrick's Catholic High School, Sarnia (2) and Woburn Collegiate Institute, Toronto (2).

2013
There appears to be a dispute as to whether the Metro Bowl game was played. Once clarified, additional updates will be introduced.
A significant format change was necessitated when the primary sponsor withdrew their subsidy for the rental fees at the Rogers Centre. Without the sponsorship support, the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, the governing body of High School sports in the Province of Ontario expanded their five football bowl festivals to a total of nine. Rather than holding championship games based on geography, a random draw was held to pair the 17 Provincial Athletic Association champions along with one wild card (from the hosting Athletic Association.
As a result the five Metro Bowl competing Athletic Associations were paired as follows:
1) Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association versus South Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association
2) Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association versus the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference
3) Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association versus Georgian Bay Secondary School Association
4) Lake Ontario Secondary Schools Association versus North Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association
5) York Region Athletic Association versus Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association
With Toronto being the host association, there was a sixth game:
6) Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association (finalist) versus Northern Ontario Secondary School Association
Ironically, there was not one pairing featuring two of the previous Metro Bowl regional associations.
This announcement prompted a report in the Toronto Sun (September 26) advising that the Metro Bowl game was to be discontinued.[1]
The decision to play these nine games across four days at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium from November 26 to 29, 2013 was not well received by many schools, especially those in and around the City of Toronto.
In a media advisory by Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, it was announced that the game between the Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association and Georgian Bay Secondary School Association champion had been designated as the 32nd Annual Metro Bowl [2]
Obviously, this decision was not well received by the four Athletic Associations, who were not included and there was considerable resentment that a school from Barrie, Ontario, which was not considered to be in the GTA, participated in the 2013 designated game.

2012
The Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association (TDCAA), who competed within the Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association (TDSSAA) league since 2003, split away to form a new league. This meant that there were now five Athletic Associations vying for the Metro Bowl title. This necessitated the introduction of a quarter-final game. For the 2012 season, the quarter-final game featured the champions from the TDCAA and TDSSAA playing for a semi-final berth. The plan going forward was that the participants in the quarter-final game would change annually.

The five athletic competing Athletic Associations in 2012 were: Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA), Lake Ontario Secondary School Association (LOSSA), Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association (TDCAA), Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association (TDSSAA) and York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) compete.

2007-2011
The competition reverted to the format that was in place for both the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

2006
The Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) were added to compete in the Metro Bowl playdowns. They had previously played in the Central Bowl, which was discontinued after the 2005 season. They played the Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) representative in a quarter-final game with the winner advancing to semi-final play. After competing in the Metro Bowl playdowns for one season, the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) champion joined the National Capital Bowl playdowns, which gave that Region four competing Athletic Associations.

2004-2005
The champions of four athletic associations: Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA), Lake Ontario Secondary School Association (LOSSA), Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association (TDSSAA) and York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) competed for the championship. Semi-final games were played with the winners advancing to the championship. The semi-finals were to be determined on a rotational basis and each of the four athletic organizations took turns hosting the semi-final games, which were played as a double header.
