The Metro Arts Theatre is a heritage-listed warehouse located in Edward Street in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It currently operates as performing arts venue.[2]

History

The site was purchased in 1871 by Caption George Poynter Heath, who erected a warehouse in 1890 and leased it to George Myers & Co, who imported china, glass and earthenware products.[3][4]

In 1992 the building was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.[3]

The theatre emerged as a community arts centre in the mid 1970s, and was purchased by Metro Arts in 2001.[2]

Current use

The Metro Arts building contains two performance venues, the Sue Benner Theatre and the Studio, and currently supports more than 30 creative businesses, individual artist studios and retail outlets.[2]
