Metro 2035 (Russian: Метро 2035) is an upcoming post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky.[1] It is going to follow the same story as the video game Metro: Last Light, but covering the plot and dialogue in much greater detail and length.[2] An Easter egg featured in the video game Metro: Last Light has hinted at a release date in December of 2013.
Announcement
Joystiq, a video game news website, first mentioned the name of the book in an article posted on the 1st of March, 2013. The article claims that the book will be written by Glukhovsky and will also be available outside of Russia.[3]
On the 23rd of March, 2013 - a video was uploaded to YouTube from PAX East 2013, by 4Player Network, where Glukhovsky gave an interview detailing some of the story aspects of Metro: Last Light. After about 8 minutes and 40 seconds in the video, the author of Metro 2033 and Metro 2034 reveals that there is going to be a new book set in the Metro universe, called Metro 2035. According to Glukhovsky, the novel will tell the same story as Metro: Last Light - thus once again casting Artyom as the protagonist - but in much greater detail and length than the game itself. The writer states that when he was writing the plot and dialogues for the game, the story outgrew the framework of a video game so he decided to write a book about it.[4]
An Easter egg found in the game Metro: Last Light revealed a release date through a poster in the game. The text reads "In stores December 2013", and also points to a website, metro2035.com (although the webpage is not yet working). Also, there are several books lying around in the game, with "Metro 2035" written on the cover - which further confirms the existence of the project. As of January 2014, the website does not yet function, and the book remains unreleased.
