Melinda Shankar (born February 18, 1992)[1][2] is a Indo-Guyanese Canadian actress who is best known for playing Alli Bhandari beginning in season 8 of Degrassi: The Next Generation[3][4] and Indira 'Indie' Mehta on How To Be Indie.

Life and career

Shankar is of Indian descent, but having grown up in Guyana, South America, she identifies as a 'Canadian of South American origin'. [5] She started her acting career at age 10 appearing in TV commercials, print ads and some theatre work.[2][6]

Shankar plays Alli Bhandari in Degrassi. She also stars in a television series on YTV called How To Be Indie. She plays the role of Indira. She co-starred in Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars, as a Disney Channel Original Movie alongside Jennifer Stone as Janie Gibbs, Harriet's best friend. She was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada.[7] Shankar currently resides in Toronto, Canada.[7] She has three siblings: Melissa, Melanie, and Michael Shankar.[7]
