Melgaço (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˌmɛɫˈɣasu]) is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 238.1 km2 (91.9 sq mi) and a total population of 9,579 inhabitants (2006).

The municipality is composed of 18 parishes, and is located in Viana do Castelo District. It is the northernmost municipality in Portugal.

The present Mayor is António Rui Esteves Solheiro, elected by the Socialist Party.

The municipal holiday is Ascension Day.
