Meixian (Chinese: 梅县; pinyin: Méixiàn), formerly Mei County, is a district of the city of Meizhou, in northeastern Guangdong province, China.
Geography
Meixian almost completely surrounds Meizhou's urban center Meijiang District. This is because the old urban core of Meixian (梅县, "plum county") was separated from the bulk of the county in the territorial reorganisations following the establishment of the People's Republic of China and given equal status.
Culture
With a majority Hakka population, Meixian is known as the home of standard Hakka, along with Dabu County.
