Meir Tapiro (Hebrew: מאיר טפירו), born March 28, 1975) is an Israeli basketball player who currently plays for Ironi Nes Ziona. Tapiro plays in the Point Guard position.
Tapiro has started playing at the youth department of Elitzur Kiryat Ata. He started his professional career at Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin. During his career, Tapiro played also at Hapoel Tel Aviv, Hapoel Eilat, Hapoel Jerusalem, Bnei HaSharon, Nancy, Maccabi Rishon LeZion and Maccabi Ashdod.
Triple Doubles
Tapiro was the first Israeli player to achieve a Triple-double. It happened during a game at February 1, 1999 when he finished the game with 16 Points, 12 Rebounds and 10 Assists playing for Maccabi Haifa. Meir was also the first Israeli to achieve a Triple-double in an international game as he led Hapoel Jerusalem to a 118–95 win over BC Odessa at the EuroCup Challenge in 2003. Up to date Tapiro has achieved 6 Triple Doubles throughout his career.
Israel National Team
Meir played for the Israeli National Team in every Eurobasket from 1999 to 2007, participating in Eurobasket 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007. His best performance on a Eurobasket event was at Eurobasket 2001 where he averaged 13.3 Pts, 4.8 Rebs and 3.5 Assists.
On May 27, 2009, in the age of 34, Tapiro announced his immediate retirement from the Israeli national team, which is due to participate in Eurobasket 2009, citing the need to rest and prepare himself physically and mentally for next season.
