Awards

Media Alliance has received acclaim nationally for its advocacy work on behalf of micro radio broadcasters against the National Association of Broadcasters and National Public Radio, and on behalf of the Pacifica Radio Network.

Issues

Digital Inclusion: Media Alliance has advocated for digital inclusion in San Francisco's municipal broadband contract with Earthlink and Google. Their goals were to secure one million dollars for technological assistance to low income, youth, and communities of color, which have previously been overlooked in municipal wireless contracts.

Net Neutrality: Media Alliance worked with the Save the Internet Coalition to keep networks free of proprietary or tiered service layers.

'Media Ownership': In 2003, Media Alliance was one of the plaintiffs in Prometheus Radio Project v. FCC, a lawsuit filed to halt the Federal Communications Commission's attempt to significantly relax media outlet ownership regulations. The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the FCC in 2004 and ordered them to re-examine their media ownership rules.
