Measure B, also known as the County of Los Angeles Safer Sex In the Adult Film Industry Act, is a measure that was up for majority vote on November 6, 2012 in the Los Angeles County, California, seeking to impose the use of condoms on all pornography film sets.[1] The measure requires all porn stars to wear condoms during all vaginal and anal sex scenes filmed in Los Angeles.

Support

Supporters of Measure B state it will stop the spread of disease, protect industry workers and protect tax dollars.[2]

Notable supporters include porn performer Aurora Snow,[3] Pink Cross Foundation,[4] and Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Opposition

Opponents of Measure B claim it's a waste of tax-payers money and will drive the porn industry out of the state or even the country.[5] Many porn producers elected to move their operations to nearby Las Vegas, whose laws are more lax.[6]

The Los Angeles Times[7] and Los Angeles Daily News[8] both editorialized in opposition to Measure B.

Notable opponents include porn performers Kayden Kross, Ava Addams, Ron Jeremy, Tera Patrick, Priya Anjali Rai, Jessica Drake, Steven St. Croix, Danny Wylde, and James Deen.[9]

Falcon Entertainment countered the ban by using post-production editing to remove the condoms from footage in its film California Dreamin' 1; the edits were intentional, as the film was intended to reflect the "carefree and spontaneous" style of the 1970s and 80s.[6]

Result

The measure was carried with a 57% yes vote.[9][10]
