The McHenry Mansion is a Victorian-Italianate historic house museum situated in the historic downtown of Modesto, California. It was originally built in 1883 as a residence for Robert McHenry, a prominent local resident.[2]

History

Robert McHenry hired Jeremiah Robinson, a Stockton-based contractor, to design and build the house, which cost $10,000 at the time. The luxurious mansion was converted to apartments from 1923 to 1972. The Gallo Brothers, Julio and Ernest, saved the house from demolition and donated it to the City of Modesto on April 14, 1976. The house has been restored to look like it did at the turn of the century. Admittance is free of charge and tour guides are present.[3]
